THUNDER BREAD
(Monkey Bread)
The Colflesh Family

Serves:
8-10
Ready In:
40 minutes

In Pennsylvania, it can rain all day long and you can usually smell it if a storm is on its way. When I was a little girl, my Dad taught my sister and I how to count off the seconds between the thunder and lighting so we could tell how far away the lightning was. It was his way of giving us knowledge so we wouldn't be afraid... and it always seemed to work.

One day, we decided to watch an arriving storm from our front porch, to watch the gorgeous light play across the sky as the thunder rumbled through us. Sounds great right? Well, after just a few minutes we were freezing and hungry, so my Dad grabbed some blankets and asked us what we wanted to eat.

I had recently learned how to make Monkey Bread and knew we had dough in the fridge, so... "Monkey Bread!", everyone agreed.

Well we set to it and about half an hour later the storm was really giving us a show and all three of us were huddled under a pile of blankets on the porch, with a mound of gooey, soft, cinnamon-licious bread, still in the pan.

It was the most cozy and delicious way to experience a thunder storm... and still to this day, when the rainy season starts up, I make sure there's some dough in the fridge or freezer so my loved ones are ready for the show to start.

EQUIPMENT:
-1 Oven-safe pan (bundt usually work best, but anything will do in a pinch)
-1 fork
-2 cereal bowls
-1 plate or cutting board

INGREDIENTS:
-2 1 lb. loaves of white bread dough (thawed or fresh)
-1 cup melted butter
(I use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter)
-1
cup sugar
(or a sugar substitute like Stevia or Splenda)
-3 tbsp cinnamon

-3 tbsp chopped nuts
(I like pecans, but use whatever you like... or none at all)

SERVICE:
Dig out the gooey pieces with a fork and eat with your hands or a fork... it's all good!

PREPARATION:
Make sure to wash your hands before and after, this recipe is very hands-on and gets a bit messy.

1. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees

2. Melt butter in one of the cereal bowls... in the microwave it takes 1 minute or less

3. Using the fork, mix the cinnamon and sugar together in the other cereal bowl

4. Set up an assembly line with the dough on the plate, to the left, melted butter in the middle and the cinnamon sugar on the right. To the right of the sugar, place your baking pan so you can fill it as you go.

5. Starting with the dough, rip off a fist full of dough to roll into a ball with your hands

6. Roll the dough in the butter, then in the cinnamon sugar and then toss it into the pan

7. Bake for 30 minutes or until the bread springs back you tap the top of it.
